Desiree Frenette
Therapist
Our lives can feel like a roller-coaster and at points, we may need help navigating those ups and downs. Not only does it take strength to ask for help, but it can be difficult to know where to start, or who to choose.
My name is Desiree and I have an Advanced Child and Youth Care Diploma, a Bachelor's of Social Work, and I am currently completing my Master’s of Social Work. I have over a decade of experience working with children, youth, and adults in diverse settings including community, mental health, and academic spaces. More importantly, my own lived experiences with trauma, mental health challenges, substance use, sudden loss, and therapy have brought me into this field and are what help me deeply empathize with what it's like to be in your shoes.
My approach is rooted in trauma-informed, culturally safe, and anti-oppressive principles. I believe in a holistic, non-pathologizing approach to healing our mind and body, and I place importance on understanding people's adverse childhood experiences, social systems, and the systemic impacts on our lives. I integrate somatic-based tools with evidence-informed practices such as narrative, mindfulness-based, and cognitive behavioural therapy to name a few.
Choosing someone to guide you along this process is not easy, and I know how important it is that we establish a strong connection. This is why I am happy to offer free 15-minute phone or video consultations to explore if we would be a good fit. If you think I am the right person, I would be honoured to accompany you as navigate your unique healing journey.
Fun Fact: I love exercise and being outdoors; whether it is soaking up the sun, going on challenging hikes, or lifting weights and doing pilates classes.
